Irregular Menstrual Cycles Shorten Women's Lifespans
The women with irregular or longer cycles were at higher risk for premature death.
A new study suggests that irregular menstrual cycles may be associated with an early death.
In a large long - term study participating by 79,505 followed by renowned researchers.
The women reported on the regularity and length of their cycles at age of 14 to 17, 18 to 22, and 39 to 46 years. The study showed that none had a history of cardiovascular disease, cancer or diabetes.
Over 24 years of follow -up, there were 1,975 death before 70 years of age, including 173 from cardiovascular disease and 894 from cancer. Compared with women with regular periods of average length at all ages, (26 to 31days), those with irregular on longer cycles were at higher risk for early death. For instance, women who always had irregular periods at ages 18 to 22 had nothing less than 37% increased risk of early mortality and those with cycle lengths of 40 days or more had 34% increased risk.
