Sexual Transmitted Infections and Ways to prevent them
Unguided sexual exploration among adolescents lead to infection with diseases that are sexually transmitted. Increase in sexually transmitted diseases in the world today can be attributed to earlier initiation into sexual activity, promiscuity, and poor access to contraception and treatment facilities among adolescents.
Population Action International recorded that WHO estimated 1 out of 20 teenagers world wide acquired STD each year. In Kenya, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, between 16 and 36 percent of youth tested in small scale studies had one or more STDs. Adolescents especially girls are more at risks of AIDS. Worldwide, among the 15 million people infected with HIV, rates of infection appear to be highest for women ages 25 and 25 and for males ages 25 to 35.
